Harpocrate seated on a lotus flower, cat. 15622
Bronze figurine showing the god Harpocrate, the Hellenization of the Egyptian god Horus the child, who was born from the lotus flower. The piece is interesting because it shows how a traditional Egyptian model was revisited by Hellenistic artists. At the same time the great diffusion of this figurative motif in the Hellenistic period testifies as to the strong progressive diffusion of the cults of salvation in the centuries that precede the coming of the Lord.
