The inner ring of this kylix contains the illustration of one of the most dramatic moments of the myth of Jason. Having reached the Colchis to claim the Golden Fleece from king Aeetes, Jason is betrayed by him and is swallowed by the monster who is guarding the Fleece, which is seen hanging from the branch of an oak tree. Jason is saved here by Athena.
