The video installation In the beginning (and then), was created by Studio Azzurro for the first Pavilion of the Holy See, dedicated to the Genesis, at the International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale in 2013.
Invited to create a work of art on the theme of Creation, Studio Azzurro - a historical Milanese group founded in 1982 by Fabio Cirifino, Paolo Rosa and Leonardo Sangiorgi - has devised a “sensitive environment”, responsive and interactive, which develops itself around the mystery of the origins, the birth of the universe and man.
Without forgetting the rich iconographic tradition related to the topic, the environment proposes a radically contemporary reading and interpretation of the Beginning.
The visitor is requested to touch the panels that create an ideal chest, opened to welcome him in a different perceptual dimension. In the great hall four screens are to be found: to the ground, a beam of light intercepts the visitor’s hand giving view to a vital circle, every time different and unique; on the walls, human figures in a state of semi-quiet are waiting for a contact to start telling and performing the kingdoms of plants, animals and humans. The hand thus becomes a symbol of creation and emblem of the relationship with the other.
