Jacob Lawrence, Builders n. 1
Rooms 28 and 29. The second half of the twentieth century in the United States

The tempera Builders condenses the characteristics of the aesthetic research of Jacob Lawrence, an Afro-American artist who participated in the Harlem Renaissance, a moment of great intellectual vitality. In conformity with the aim of making art understandable to all, the artist creates an extremely simplified image, built up of fields of compact colour, almost as if it were a billboard poster. The outcome, which is extremely readable, is true to the idea of equality of rights, extending also to the accessibility of artistic enjoyment.
