Section I. Religion and forms of devotion

For the month of April (right column), the elements characterising the monthly calendar structure are conserved in vertical sequence: 1) the nundinal letters A-H indicate the days between one market and the next (nùndinae); the ascending numbers before the expiry of the Ides (13 April); 3) the abbreviations f(asto) and n(efasto) describe the day in terms of civil and religious activities; and 4) feast days (feriae) linked to special events such as the ludi Ceriales, performances in honour of the goddess Cerere. In March (left column), there are the equirria in honour of Mars, protector of war horses (equi); the day after, in Via Flaminia at the first milestone there would have been the Anna Perenna prayer for longevity, "perennare".
