Room IV. Stones (epigraphs and sculpture)

This room contains monuments of various kinds (sarcophaguses, urns, full relief sculptures, reliefs, stones, inscriptions), origin (Chiusi, Vulci, Cerveteri, Orte, Palestrina) and age (from the sixth to the first century B.C.), united only by the material from which they are made: stone. They are mainly of local stone, preferred by Etruscan sculptors and chisellers for its ease of cut, while the aesthetic defects were remedied with abundant plastering and bright polychromes, which are now almost totally lost.
