Rooms VII and VIII. Etruscan and Roman jewellery

Each earring is composed of two semi-circular elements, separated by a coil of knurled wire. A rock crystal is set on the upper part, bordered with granulated flowers between rows of coils with little spheres and a granulated strip, followed by, along the external border, two semi-reclining Silenus and a double-flute player (in the more complete specimen only). An agate is set in the lower part, bordered by small triangles, knurled wire and a frame pendulum with drops alternated with spheres; at the sides there are two drop bezels.
They constitute a type very specific to Etruria: the so-called jewel of Vignanello includes many similar decorative motifs, including the figure of the reclining Silenus. Similar earrings are also depicted on the painted panels of Gordion.
