Diagnostic Laboratory for Conservation and Restoration

The Vatican Museums Diagnostic Laboratory for Conservation and Restoration is responsible for carrying out diagnostic procedures and chemical, physical and microbiological research in order to determine the processes of deterioration of the works and to identify constitutive materials and production techniques. It offers technical and scientific support to the Directorate, to the various Departments and scientific Sectors, to all the restoration Laboratories and to the Conservator's Office, verifying the suitability of materials and products for restoration and conservation.
