Vatican Museums Conference Hall – in person and live streaming

On the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Holy See and the Republic of Korea, and as part of the celebratory events organized for the occasion, the Vatican Museums, together with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to the Holy See will present, on Tuesday 16 January, a new joint publishing project that confirms, both in its genesis and in its implementation, the spirit of cooperation and friendship between the two countries already demonstrated in the first Korean exhibition organized in the Vatican in 2017: “On earth as it is in heaven. Seoul and 230 years of the Catholic Church in Korea”.

Musei Vaticani. Stupore senza tempo” (Vatican Museums: Timeless wonder) is the Italian title of the new book, just published by Edizioni Musei Vaticani in collaboration with the Korean diplomatic representation, and constitutes the Vatican Museums’ first popular publication in the Korean language. It is a concise illustrated guide to the principal works in the papal collections, to discover close up – and in a language spoken by over 75 million people worldwide – one hundred unmissable masterpieces of the Pope’s Museums.

Every year, Korean visitors are among the most numerous to the Vatican Museums, and so the need was strongly felt to communicate directly, also in their own language, all the beauty of the artistic heritage preserved and handed down over the centuries by the Popes.

Borrowing the words of Saint John Paul II, the Director of the Vatican Museums, Barbara Jatta, would like to recall the identity and mission of the institution she heads: “For many people, coming from all continents and belonging to religions, even those different from our own, the Catholic Church is sometimes known only through the works of art preserved in the Vatican Museums”, reaffirming, also on the occasion of this presentation, the moral duty to make the Museums always accessible to all peoples, languages and cultures.

The meeting will be introduced by the words of Sr. Raffaella Petrini, Secretary General of the Governorate of Vatican City State, to be followed by interventions from Professor Jatta and His Excellency Hyunjoo Oh, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Holy See.
