Agreement between the Vatican Museums and the National Gallery of Umbria

1 October 2020

The fruitful collaboration between the Pope's Museums and the state museum of Perugia, initiated in 2018, continues and is strengthened in the wake of a concerted promotion of artistic and cultural heritage.

Following the realization in partnership of the itinerant exhibition, in the two respective museum seats, dedicated to the extraordinary “recomposition” of Perugino’s Decemviri Altarpiece - and which involved the reuniting, after two centuries, of the pictorial panel (owned by the Vatican) with its original frame and cymatium (owned by the National Gallery of Umbria) - the two cultural institutions return to the table to sign an important cooperation agreement that provides not only for the significant concession to the Vatican Museums of the long-term loan of the frame of the Altarpiece, but also a more extensive sharing of future exhibition and research projects that will engage the two museums in further exchanges and loans of works belonging to their collections.
