Free Admission on World Tourism Day
Open doors to the Vatican Museums, Tuesday 27 September 2011, on the occasion of the forthcoming World Tourism Day. Visitors can visit the Pontifical Galleries free of charge during the following hours: from 09.00 a.m. to 06.00 hrs (last admission 04.00 p.m.). World Tourism Day 2011 is commemorated under the theme "Tourism - Linking Cultures", an opportunity to highlight the role of tourism in bringing the cultures of the world together and in promoting global understanding through travel, especially considering that over nine hundred million people undertook journeys to other countries during 2010. Promoted by the United Nations' World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), the World Tourism Day is celebrated worldwide every 27 September.
Tourism is a vital tool for breaking down cultural and linguistic barriers, offering an enormous opportunity to promote tolerance, respect and mutual understanding.
