Vatican Museums: a source of ideas and innovations
Museums at Work is the title of the new scientific-cultural initiative to be launched by the Vatican Museums on 11 April, with the presentation of the restoration (financed by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the Patrons of the Arts) of the triptych by the painter from Viterbo Antonio del Massaro, also known as “il Pastura”, depictin "The Virgin bestows her belt to Saint Thomas, The Mass of Saint Gregory, Saint Jerome Penitent" (1497): a painting possibly destined for an important Roman monastic community with strong doctrinal interests and particular devotion to the Virgin and to the Fathers of the Church.
The Museums at Work programme, which will be hosted in the coming months in Room XVII of the Vatican Pinacoteca, is intended to offer visitors a series of "small exhibitions" casting light on the many everyday activities of the Pope’s Museums presented as a lively study and research laboratory: new acquisitions, recent restorations, and innovative scientific projects.
