Room 32. The illusion of bronze

The intellectual and creative energy of Tito Amodei, sculptor, painter and engraver, has always been channelled towards the search for new possibilities of formal renewal in the field of religious art. The theme of the Pietà, which Tito explores repeatedly and with different expressive media, includes a multitude of ideas for the artist, who thus describes the potential inherent in the representation of an encounter: “Two figures allow you to create endless forms of architecture, to give rhythm to spaces; they may be placed in a dialectic or gathered in communion”. These words appear to pre-announce this Pietà of 1965, compositionally rigorous, with angular shapes carved in wood so as to leave the surfaces raw, underlining the drama of the moment.
