Section XVI. Christian inscriptions, II

This group of walls comprises a further and more extensive series of “Monuments of Ancient Christians”, or rather inscriptions from community cemeteries in Rome, almost all in Latin. It represents another “window” on the world of the Christian communities of the first centuries (see Sections XIV, XV and XVII), providing more evidence on relationships within the family, on society, the church, social fabric, crafts and professions, ideas about death and the afterlife, expressions of faith, names of people, language, the formulas and vocabulary of burial, the reuse of marble artifacts, and the figurative repertoire.
