Tapestries and Textiles Restoration Laboratory
The Vatican Museums Tapestries and Textiles Restoration Laboratory is responsible for the maintenance and restoration of all the textile artefacts preserved in the Vatican Museums. These comprise not only large tapestries, but also embroidery, textiles, furnishings, upholstery, plumage and sacred adornments such as antependia, liturgical vestments and seats of papal thrones.
In chronological order it was the second restoration laboratory established within the “Pope's Museums”, and is the only one which also employs religious staff, from the congregation of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary.
