Women’s Day at the Vatican Museums: female holiness in art
The Vatican Museums are participating in the celebration of International Women’s Day by dedicating three dates to the occasion: 4, 8 and 11 March. To mark the event, an original themed guided tour will be offered to all visitors, not only women, to discover in the Vatican collections the extraordinary women who through their holiness have made a significant contribution to the life of the Church.
The special itinerary – inspired by Pope Francis words, “Women make the world beautiful” – will start from the Pius-Cristian Museum, moving on to all the iconographic representations of holy women that populate the Vatican Pinacoteca.
The Virgin of the Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel will constitute, at the end of the tour, the theological and artistic apex of a story, interpreted in the feminine, but which finds an inclusive and universal synthesis in the language of art.
A visit and experience open to all, including families with children (recommended age 6 and over).
The guided tours – conducted in Italian or English – are entirely accessible to those with sensory, motor and learning disabilities (dedicated booking at education.musei@scv.va).
