A “special” golf car in the increasingly accessible Castel Gandolfo Museum Complex gardens

September 2024

The gardens of the Castel Gandolfo Museum Complex are becoming even more accessible. As of 1 September, they will be offering visitors a special electric shuttle that also allows the transport of a wheelchair for people with disabilities or reduced mobility.

The comfortable latest-generation golf car, with zero emissions, provides eight/six seats, and is homologated for road circulation and equipped with specific fittings to cater also to a more fragile public with particular walking difficulties.

The service – free of charge and also extended to a companion – is offered jointly by the Directorate of the Pontifical Villas and the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage, and represents an innovative solution in the sphere of proposals dedicated to accessible and sustainable mobility, as part of the programme entitled “Ecological Conversion 2030”, launched by the Governorate of Vatican City State in November last year, with the aim of achieving climatic neutrality and making the State’s car fleet carbon neutral by 2030.

The electric shuttle will have an authorized driver (Vatican employee), who during the journey will also provide historical and botanical information on the Garden of the Moor and the Secret Garden.
