Room of the Creed
Room of the Creed
The second room created in the Borgia Tower, which is structured similarly to the Room of the Sibyls next to it, is named after the Creed, that according to a tradition widespread from the fourth century onwards was composed by the Apostles by divine inspiration before they left Jerusalem to fulfil their mission of evangelisation.
The verses of the Creed, which may be read on the scrolls fluttering in the hands of the twelve Apostles, are alternated with those of the Prophets who foretold them, attesting to a continuity between the Old and New Testaments. Starting from the window, there are following pairs: Peter-Jeremiah, John-David, Andrew-Isaiah, James the Elder-Zechariah, Matthew-Hosea, James the Younger-Amos, Philip-Malachi, Bartholomew-Joel, Thomas-Daniel, Simon-Malachi, Thaddaeus-Zechariah, Matthew-Obadiah.
