Stone Materials Restoration Laboratory
Secondary navigation
The Stone Materials Restoration Laboratory performs a complex task within the museum structure: it ensures the protection of around 20 thousand works in stone materials present in the Vatican Collections and oversees the restoration of valuable surfaces in stone material within Vatican territory, intra ed extra moenia. In particular, its restoration activity involves all stone works, both moveable and monumental, regardless of the historical period from which they originate.
The Laboratory is also responsible for producing copies of the sculptural collection of the Vatican Museums in various materials, both for internal use, when it is necessary to substitute a work displayed elsewhere, and upon request for other museum institutions, at national and international level, for scientific, educational and display purposes.
