Metals and Ceramics Restoration Laboratory
The Vatican Museums Metals and Ceramics Restoration Laboratory has the task of ensuring the conservation and restoration of items in the Vatican Collections made of metal, ceramic and terracotta. The Laboratory is also responsible for interventions involving semi-precious materials such as mother of pearl, gemstones, amber, glass, enamels, wax, bone and ivory.
The conservation activities related to the Laboratory also include the restoration of works of art, archaeological artefacts and items preserved in the Patriarchal Basilicas.
A special section is instead dedicated to the conservation of the Antique Arms Collection, transferred to the Vatican from the Historical Museum of St. John Lateran.
