Paper Restoration Laboratory
The Vatican Museums Paper Restoration Laboratory is responsible for the conservation and restoration of works on paper, parchment and papyrus belonging to the various departments of the Vatican Collections.
On account of the great variety and diversity of the works – of non-homogeneous sources – the Laboratory works on supports which are very different to one another. Indeed, the restorers work on prints, watercolours, tempera paintings on large format paper, or on globes and Egyptian papyri and cartonnages, as well as on contemporary art works using mixed techniques and papier peint découpé.
