Etruscan Princes in Laboratory
The tomb Regolini-Galassi analysed
(N.T.)

This volume aims at introducing and contextualizing, from the archaeological point of view, the results of two different analytical campaigns realized on some samples from the Regolini-Galassi tomb, inside the Etruscan necropolis in Cerveteri.
The first aspect of the survey concerns the examination of the bone samples. The related essay was written by the Centre of the molecular Anthopology for the study of ancient DNA at the University of Rome ‘Tor Vergata’. Other essays were written by the Cabinet of Scientific Research of the Vatican Museums. In-depth diagnostic studies carried out by the same laboratory brought to two different essays concerning the identification of the organic substances on the surface of some buccaro statuettes and the exam of an unaltered yarn fragment.

The results of the analysis, presented in this study together with a rich iconographic set, allowed us to learn new information about the complex of the Regolini-Galassi, whose comprehension remains influenced by the nineteenth-century execution and documentation of the excavation. The outcome contributes to give new ferment to the study of the prestigious necropolis of Cerveteri and of their rediscovered treasures.
