Gaetano Previati (1852-1920). La Passione

20 February – 20 May 2018
Carlo Maria Martini Diocesan Museum, Milan

On Tuesday, 20 February, in the Lenten season that has just begun, the Carlo Maria Martini Diocesan Museum of Milan opens to the Milanese public, and to others, an exhibition organized in collaboration with the Vatican Museums: “Gaetano Previati (1852-1920). La Passione”.

Open to visitors until 20 May, the exhibition curated by Nadia Righi, director of the Diocesan Museum, and Micol Forti, curator of the Contemporary Art Collection of the Pope’s Museums, proposes a reflection on the theme of the Passion of Christ through the presentation of a nucleus of religious works by the Ferrarese artist.

The exhibition opens with La Via al Calvario, a painting recently acquired by the Milanese museum but not yet exhibited, and then continues with the 14 large canvases of the Via Crucis realized between 1901 and 1902 and recently restored in the Vatican Laboratories. Thus the Via Crucis, in this exceptional circumstance, may once again be admired after the long period in which it was not visible to the public.
