Come with your family to “capture nature” in the Vatican Gardens

13 July – 26 October 2024

The Vatican Museums are more family friendly than ever! From Saturday 13 July, a new and original proposal will enrich the range of visits and activities conceived with families in mind: “Capture Nature” in the Vatican Gardens.

It will be the first guided tour dedicated specifically to parents who wish to spend two pleasant hours with their children in the splendid natural setting of the Pope's Gardens, enjoying nature and learning en plein air. An original and stimulating itinerary inspired by Pope Francis' Encyclical Laudato Si' to raise awareness among adults and children on the themes of protecting Creation and safeguarding the environment.

Every Saturday of the month, until 26 October, families will be guided by expert educators to discover the “green lung” of the Vatican State: the plants of the Biblical Garden, the Wood, the English Garden, the Fountain of the Zitella, the Casina Pio IV, Our Lady of the Guard and of Fatima, the places preferred by the Pontiffs during their walks, the papal coats of arms, and finally many anecdotes and curiosities. What will make this route between nature, art and faith special are the games, workshops and playful experiences that will animate the visit. Among the activities on offer are the ever-present treasure hunt, the creation of a Vatican "masterpiece" using the frottage technique, the discovery of turtles, the recognition of plants mentioned in the Bible, the "Wood Wide Web and the Family of Trees", and "Rubbish or Nature?" to learn how to distinguish natural products from synthetic ones.
A true outdoor education experience to grow together in awareness of beauty and defence of the Common Home.

The guided tour (available in both Italian and English) is designed for families with children between the age of 6 and 12 and is also fully accessible to people with sensory, motor and intellectual disabilities (please reserve at  accessibilita.musei@scv.va).
At the end of the tour, and at no additional cost, it will be possible to visit the Vatican Museums independently.
