Bronze statue of Saint Peter
Located almost at the centre of Vatican City, the bronze statue of Saint Peter stands on a high pedestal in a grassy space surrounded by plants and palms.
The work previously formed part of a commemorative sculpture dedicated to the First Vatican Council (1869-1870), installed at the centre of the Courtyard of the Pinecone in the Vatican. In around 1935 the monument was dismantled and the individual pieces, transformed into decorative elements, were scattered separately within the gardens.
