Saint John’s Tower
The tower was built during the fifteenth century, during the restoration and reinforcement of the city walls, with the shape and function of a defensive bastion.
Over the centuries, however, its uses changed according to necessity, until it was raised in 1962, then used by Pope John XXIII as a summer residence and subsequently adapted as a place to welcome special guests visiting the pontiff. Not far from the tower stands the large bronze bell of the 2000 Jubilee.
