Mosaic Restoration Laboratory
The Vatican Museums Mosaic Restoration Laboratory is one of the longest-standing laboratories in the “Pope’s Museums”, and boasts a long tradition in ancient mosaic art. It is occupied with the conservation and restoration both of mosaics made of marble, enamels and vitreous paste, and those produced using micro-mosaic technique or in Cosmatesque style.
In the museum context, the scope of the Laboratory’s work is vast and ranges from floors to wall mosaics, as well as those on mobile supports.
