“Research for Supplements”
Vatican Museums Conference Hall – live streaming
An event entirely dedicated to the publishing activity of the Vatican Museums will be held on Thursday 21 April, as part of the now traditional Thursdays in the Museums series of meetings and conferences.
The talk, streamed live from 05.00 p.m. on the YouTube channel of the Pope’s Museums, will focus on the three new Supplements to the Bollettino dei Monumenti, Musei e Gallerie Pontificie, the journal published by the Directorate of Museums and Cultural Heritage, which reaches its 38th issue this year.
The aim of the "Bulletin", then as now, was to communicate the scientific news that emerged from the study of the works and from archaeological excavations, the updates regarding techniques and experiments linked to restoration and conservation developed within its specialized laboratories, and in-depth archival studies on the history and vicissitudes of the collections.
The analysis relates not only to the movable and mural works, the art of antiquity and contemporary art, or the art of the different cultures of the world, but also the architecture, the monuments, and the gardens: that is, the entire complex of historical buildings linked to the Apostolic See of Peter.
"La pisside white-on-red Regolini-Galassi restaurata" (The Regolini-Galassi white-on-red restored pyxis), "Tessuti dal mondo" (Textiles from the world) and "Trame sottili tra luce e oro" (Fine weaves between light and gold) are the titles of the three volumes/supplements published by Edizioni Musei Vaticani (EMV) as monographic issues in their own right and dedicated to an in-depth study of some works in the Vatican collections. These three studies are connected by a similar methodology of analytical approach, the result of a constant synergy between the scholar of the work and the technicians of restoration, diagnostics and conservation.
The presentation will be introduced and moderated by the Director of the Museums, Barbara Jatta, who will then give the floor to Cristina Pantanella, editor of the Bulletin, and to the various authors: Adele Breda, Mario Cappozzo, Jean-François Genotte, Jana Michalcakova and Maurizio Sannibale.
