La Collezione Arte Moderna e Contemporanea dei Musei Vaticani 1973-2023
Vatican Museums Conference Hall – in person and live streaming
On Thursday 20 June, to crown the events celebrating the 50th anniversary of the birth of the Modern and Contemporary Art Collection, the Vatican Museums will once again honour this important anniversary with the presentation, as part of the Thursdays in the Museums programme, of a publishing initiative already announced and launched on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name from 23 June to 24 September last year, focusing on the "youngest" of the Vatican collections.
Edizioni Musei Vaticani has published the comprehensive volume “La Collezione Arte Moderna e Contemporanea dei Musei Vaticani 1973-2023. Origini, storia, trasformazioni” (The Modern and Contemporary Art Collection 1973-2023. Origins, History, Transformations) edited by Micol Forti, Director of the Department of XIX Century and Contemporary Art, together with the Assistants Francesca Boschetti and Rosalia Pagliarani.
The conference – introduced as usual by the Director of the Vatican Museums Barbara Jatta – will also provide an opportunity to review, together with the two historians of contemporary art Elisabetta Cristallini and Giuseppe Appella, the history, developments, exhibition events, and study projects as well as the acquisitions of the Vatican collection characterized ever since its inception by a unique balance between tradition and innovation.
