May with Mary, Woman of Hope
Guided tours in the Vatican Gardens
In the month of May, traditionally dedicated to the figure of the Virgin Mary, Woman of Hope, the Vatican Museums are proposing a guided tour which offers a unique experience: an exceptional cultural and spiritual journey through nature. The visit will take place in the Vatican Gardens, an oasis of peace, a lush green lung that occupies half of the area of the Vatican State. “Mary, Woman of Hope”, part of the Jubilee initiatives, will offer a special opportunity for reflection and devotion. The itinerary allows visitors to focus on the central role of Mary, symbol of peace and hope, in Christian spirituality, and to discover the many images of the Mother of God that may be found in the evocative setting of the Vatican Gardens.
From 21 to 28 May, every Wednesday it will be possible to join this Marian pilgrimage among the botanical and artistic wonders of the Pope’s Gardens. It is a precious opportunity to admire how, over time, the Popes have honoured Mary and created a place of prayer and contemplation immersed in greenery.
Numerous effigies of the Virgin enrich the different nature trails, starting from the most ancient – Our Lady of Lourdes, a faithful reproduction of the original French environment – up to the most recent sculptures from Latin America, passing via the statue of Our Lady of Fatima and the monument dedicated to Our Lady of Guadalupe, especially dear to Holy Father Francis and widely venerated.
The visit is suitable for all, including families with children (recommended age 6+).
The guided tours – conducted in Italian and English – are entirely accessible to those with sensory, motor and learning disabilities (dedicated booking at accessibilita.musei@scv.va).
