Conference “Raphael in the Vatican”

27, 28, 29 September 2021
Pinacoteca of the Vatican Museums – live streaming

Five hundred years after the death of Raphael Sanzio, and at the conclusion of the celebrations for the Raphael Year in the Vatican, the Pope’s Museums intend to contribute to the rich calendar of events in his honour with an international study conference taking into account both his activity as an architect and fresco painter, as well as that of painter of easel works and director of various decorative works.

Postponed and rescheduled several times due to the health emergency, “Raphael in the Vatican” will take place on 27, 28 and 29 September 2021 in the Raphael Hall of the Vatican Museums Pinacoteca where, in conjuction with the event, the exhibition “The Saints Peter and Paul by Raphael and Fra Bartolomeo. A tribute to the Patrons of Rome” has just been inaugurated.

Dedicated to the memory of the great restorer Gianluigi Colalucci - who recently passed away and whose valuable participation in the event was expected - the Conference will bring together leading experts on Raphael and will consist of three days of work divided into six scientific sessions, each with a specific focus.

The meeting - which can be attended online only, via live streaming on the official YouTube channel - will also constitute the official occasion for the presentation and public sharing of the historical and artistic discoveries and diagnostic results linked to the completion of the restoration work carried out in recent decades in the Raphael’s Rooms.
